Now, I'm trying to make a button widget. This code shows you how to make a "UP" and "DOWN" button and connect their 'click' event to some functions.

After making TextButton widget, you can interconnect of button event and callback function using "connect" API.

Chameleo Widget Making 2

Now, I am going to make directories and files for a widget.

You can change the name of 'chameleo-plugins-thomas' name. But others should not be altered. I attached these files in this blog.

In case of image, Chameleo uses the format of SVG 1.1. You can change image using Adobe Illustrator.

And in 'chameleo-plugins-thomas' directory, you types this command.

# python build.py C:\chameleo\plugins egg_info

And EGG file will be created in C:\chameleo\plugins directory. And now you can see this widget in Chameleo.

This is the basic process of making a widget. But you can't widget window, when you click widget button. Next time, I will add a code for a window.

Now, I'm gonna show you how to make a Chameleo widget. Yes, I'm also a novice to Chameleo Programming. ^^

Firstly, what I need is the widget that move Video and Subtitle position. In my case, (I'm korean) I need subtitle whenever I see a movie. But there's overlapped space between subtitle and movie. So I want to move both of them to up and down and remove that space.

Next time, I will show you the basic widget of Chameleo.

Now, the Chameleo player can support Hangul Input Method. Firstly, we've been trying to make our own input method, but invalid. After few days, KwangYul suggested GTK's input method. It's too easy to implement. Now, it works.

metadata and advertisement

A general advertisement format in video contains of 3 kinds, pre-roll, post-roll and PIP (picture in picture). Pre-roll and post-roll is a streotype of video ad. PIP has not been yet adopted in media player. Pre-roll is shown unabashedly regardless of user’s eye. Most of post-roll is not played by users. To overcome disadvantages of pre and post roll type, few companies have been trying to provide contextual and relevant advertisement or information to user mustering customer’s interest. Releated information is made of metadata of media, and metadata would be written by users and taken by users.

Now, we are challenging to use metadata of media for advertisement. We hope chameleo media platform should be a protagonist for constructing a close relationship between metadata and advertisement.

collaboration in media

I've watched two collaboration service of contents.

The first one is "beedeo" in south korea. They made complexed functions on a flash player, so user can make some kinds of meta data on a playing media content.

The second one is "Cozimo". They also made some collaboration service in web. But they are considering any contents of collaboration materials, such as text, image, video and event PDF format.

Why collaboration? User Generated Contents are limited, because of itself. It's made by only oneself. Nobody else append anything. But collaboration overcomes this limitation.

Web 2.0 system would be applied to media contents.

doubleclick deceives google?

Everybody is talking about "DoubleClick and Google". Maybe, it's the limit sign of online ad. market.

video search

Searching video is pretty complexed job. I guess nobody has succeeded that. CastTV took $3.1M for video search. They said the special some algorithm could boost on their search algorithm. Is that true? In some degrees, their goal may be achieved. But AI is not better than manual. Web 2.0 has taken metadata not from data driven computer but human. People proposed a related metadata for contents, and made another contents.

Later, metadata would be added to media by human.

subtitle

Original media doesn't have a subtitle, but people feel they need that, specially one who uses other languages. In south korea, America Drama is becoming famous more and more, day by day. It's thanks to subtitle. Subtitle was made by volunteer who didn't receive any salary for that.

But, making subtittle costs too much. One subtitle may need one full day for dictating and synching. It's too hard work only for a man. I guess there will be a cooperation for making subtitle or translation.

Someone talks about "Joost's missing features". His suggestion is that Joost can be used as Media 2.0 platform. Maybe or Maybe not.

The future of Media Platform

There're two kinds of media platform. One is Web Portal Site. The other one is a software player.

Democracy player is coming up. (FireAnt also) They don't have their own media contents but just uses their aggregation power. Nicholas Reville said RSS will be a key point of two party's war. If RSS will be important, Ad would be involved in content, itself. Every Customer seems to hate that. Any good idea?

Do we need a standard for a widget?

Various kind of widgets are living in a web, but most of them is made of flash. (actually, that's not a web. http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20001029.html) So do we need a standard for a widget? Basically nope, but partially yes. Widget has a HTML,CSS and JavaScript within it. A content is the same format but envelope is different. If we have a connector between many formats of widget, all widget can be used in all platforms which can support web standard. For example, Yahoo widget would be used in Dashboard inMacOS.
